Eliza Olson, protector of the Burns Bog peat ecosystem in BC’s Fraser River Valley

Eliza Olson is fighting to save the Burns Bog, a unique peat ecosystem in BC’s Fraser River Valley. Over the years, developers have proposed filling the bog for commercial buildings, a golf course and a major highway.

“There are many reasons to protect the bog,” she says. “If we succeed, wonderful. If we fail, we’ll know that we did the best we can.”

Eliza “Bog Lady” Olson has earned many environmental awards and is featured this week in Herstory: The Canadian Women’s Calendar.
